Camera backups on the road. Verified, offline, usable with gloves on.
SD Migrator turns a Raspberry Pi 5 on your motorcycle into a backup station for action cams and drones – and cuts a short video from a day's riding footage.
SD Migrator is a travel studio for motorcycle trips on a Raspberry Pi 5: it backs up memory cards from cameras and drones with verification, distributes the backups to USB drives and the cloud, and cuts a daily preview from a day's videos. You operate it via a web interface in German or English – on a tablet, in a browser or via the included Android app, even offline.
Verified backups
Every copied file is read back and checked using a checksum. Either the card stays unchanged (COPY), or only the backed-up files are deleted after a second check (MOVE).
Distribute backups
Mirror backups to several USB SSDs or fill them one after another. Files in the staging area are only deleted after a verified backup.
Cloud backup
Incremental and verified to Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, pCloud and iCloud Drive, with a data limit and across multiple accounts.
Automatic daily preview
A first cut of 2–8 minutes from all of a day's cameras, with music, voice comments and GPS track. Change requests such as "more bends" are carried out by Claude as director.
Editor with timeline
Trim, move, insert or delete scenes, adjust the sound using markers and remix in seconds without re-rendering the picture. The final render is in 1080p from the originals.
Align Insta360 X5
360° recordings are read; you set the viewing direction for each scene by hand in the panoramic view or let Claude suggest it.
Correct camera clocks
Recordings from cameras with incorrect clocks are assigned to the correct day – by hand or automatically via QR code using the Pi's time.
Own Wi-Fi and monitoring
The Pi opens its own hotspot for the tablet and can pass on internet from a phone hotspot. Temperature, voltage and USB overcurrent are monitored, with notifications and shutdown in case of overheating.
Short videos straight from the app – re-recorded automatically with every new release.
Built for travel
SD Migrator was created for documenting motorcycle trips: the cards from the Insta360 X5, GO 3S and Ace Pro 2 as well as the DJI drone are backed up during a break or in the evening, without a laptop and without internet. Everything is operated via the web interface on a tablet with large buttons, in light or dark mode.
Everything about using SD Migrator – from installing it on the Raspberry Pi to editing the daily preview. The manual is updated with every product release.
