Current version

Version & Installation

SD Migrator is supplied as a Debian package for the Raspberry Pi 5. You receive the package together with your licence.

v2.29.3
released 22 October 2026

You receive the package after your licence request.

Requirements

Installation

  1. Prepare a Raspberry Pi 5 with Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit (Debian 13 “trixie”) – a Raspberry Pi 4 is not supported.
  2. Install the SD Migrator installation package via the package manager; updates are installed the same way, and your settings are kept.
  3. Recommended: disable the graphical desktop and configure the Pi to power off completely when it shuts down.
  4. Connect the tablet to the Pi’s Wi-Fi hotspot and open https://10.42.0.1.
  5. Install the Pi’s HTTPS certificate on the tablet once, or on Android devices install the supplied app.
  6. Initial setup: mount the storage devices under “Drives”, set the staging storage under “Back up cards” and enable notifications.
  7. For a stable power supply, use a power adapter or power bank with USB-PD 5 V / 5 A; when travelling, connect the camera and SSD via a powered USB hub.

For large video files, use drives formatted with ext4 or exFAT, as FAT32 only allows 4 GiB per file. Before using the system with irreplaceable footage for the first time, test it with real cameras, power failures and your own drives.
