Distributing backups
Use this function to back up the footage you have collected from the staging drive to one or more USB drives or to the cloud. This way, you always have at least one verified copy of your data while on the road.
Starting a backup
- Select the Staging source.
- Tick the USB targets you want.
- Tap Start BACKUP.
Only the SD-Migrator folder on the staging drive is copied. The device verifies the copy on each target individually.
Setting the order of targets
The targets appear in a reorderable list. The device works through them from top to bottom.
- Drag a target by the ⠿ handle to the position you want, or
- move it with ↑ and ↓.
The order is saved.
Multiple targets: Mirror or Fill one after another
If you select several targets, you decide for USB and cloud backups how the files are distributed:
- Mirror (default): every target gets everything.
- Fill one after another: the device fills the targets in the order shown. Each file ends up on exactly one target.
- USB: up to the free space. 64 MiB is left free on each target.
- Cloud: up to the target’s GB limit and – if the provider reports it – up to the account’s free space.
- Files that are already in an account are only verified there.
- If something no longer fits on any target, the job reports the number of these files.
Tip: With Fill one after another, you can use several small free cloud accounts together.
GB limit per cloud target
Next to each cloud target is the GB limit per cloud target. A value of 0 means unlimited. The device remembers the last value used; if no value has been saved, a preset default applies.
Deleting after the backup
You can have the data removed automatically after a successful backup:
- Delete from Staging after verified backup (USB)
- Delete locally after verified upload (cloud, not for iCloud)
Deletion only happens at the very end and only after you confirm:
- With Mirror, only files that have been verified on all targets are deleted.
- With Fill one after another, files are deleted that have been verified on their target.
Caution: For USB backups, the device checks each copy against the source once more before deleting. Every file must be unchanged – otherwise nothing is deleted.
