Time, NTP & Timecode Generator
With the correct time, the timecode, preview and the grouping of your footage by day are accurate. The timecode generator also lets you sync your camera’s clock with SD Migrator.
Setting the time and time zone
Open Settings → Time & NTP.
- Tick the countries on your trip. Ticked countries appear at the top of the list.
- Arrange the ticked countries with ▲. The device queries the time servers of the countries in this order. If it finds no time there, it automatically uses worldwide time servers.
- Under Time zone, choose the device’s time zone. For countries with several time zones, choose the right one.
The local time in timecode, preview and days follows the selected time zone.
Caution: The device needs internet access to synchronise the time, for example via your phone’s hotspot. Without a network, only the backup battery of the built-in clock keeps the time.
Timecode generator
The timecode generator sends timecode (LTC) via a USB sound card to your camera’s timecode input. For this you need the Insta360 Mic Adapter. The X5 and the Ace Pro 2 each have their own adapter.
Open Settings → Timecode generator.
Wiring
- Plug the USB sound card into the device.
- Connect the sound card’s headphone output to the Mic Adapter with a 3.5 mm cable.
- You do not need a voltage divider. The device sets the sound card’s volume correctly itself at startup.
Presets
Each preset contains:
- a name,
- a frame rate,
- a level.
Caution: The frame rate must exactly match the camera’s recording frame rate. Otherwise the camera reports “Synchronisation failed”.
Setting the level
Use the slider to set the level (in dBFS) of the active preset. The change takes effect immediately while sending.
Tip: Start with a low level and only increase it if needed.
Syncing the camera
- Tap Start timecode.
- Only then plug the cable into the camera’s Mic Adapter.
- The camera takes over the timecode and reports “Timecode synchronised”.
Caution: Resync the camera after every battery change.
