Initial setup
Before you back up your first memory cards, set up SD Migrator once. You define where the data is temporarily stored and enable notifications so that you stay informed about running operations.
Overview
Setup consists of three steps:
- Mount drives
- Set Staging
- Enable notifications
Mount drives
- Open the Drives page.
- Mount all storage devices that are not yet mounted.
Set Staging
SD Migrator temporarily stores the data from your cards in the Staging area. You can use the internal NVMe or a USB SSD for this.
- Open the Back up cards page.
- Choose the appropriate box:
- Internal NVMe for the built-in NVMe
- USB Staging for a connected USB SSD
- In the box you want, tap Change drive and select the drive.
- If the system is on the NVMe, tap Change folder and select a folder. The intended folder is
SD-Migrator-Staging.
Tip: In landscape mode on the tablet, first tap Change in the upper box. The other buttons then appear.
Resetting assignments
Tap Reset in the box of the selected target to remove all assignments. Then set the drive and folder again.
The folder browser
After Change folder, the folder browser opens. There you can:
- browse only the permitted areas,
- create new subfolders,
- delete empty folders.
The Staging folder currently in use is protected. You cannot delete it.
Requirements for the Staging folder
- The folder must be a real folder on the selected drive, not a link.
- You cannot select the top level (root) of the drive. Always select a subfolder.
SD Migrator remembers the drive and folder unambiguously. This lets the device recognise the correct Staging target again.
Caution: At least 10 GiB always remain free on the system disk. This reserve is not available for your data. The free capacity shown already takes the reserve into account.
Enable notifications
- Tap the system values.
- Tap Enable notifications.
- Allow notifications when your browser asks.
