Network shares
The network shares let you access the SD Migrator’s files directly from your laptop, tablet or smartphone. This lets you view or copy footage, or upload GPX files for the daily preview, for example.
What is shared
- Staging: the Staging folder. This is the only folder shared from the internal NVMe.
- Laufwerke (drives): all drives mounted by the SD Migrator, i.e. inserted SD cards and USB SSDs. Each drive appears as its own subfolder.
- Upload: a folder for files from the tablet, e.g. GPX files for the daily preview.
Warning: The shares are accessible without login, with read and write access and on all networks, including via the Wi-Fi uplink on third-party Wi-Fi networks (hotel, campsite). Anyone on the same network can read, change and delete files there, including the originals on inserted SD cards.
Addresses
There are two ways to connect.
SMB (Windows share)
Each share has its own address:
\\10.42.0.1\Staging\\10.42.0.1\Laufwerke\\10.42.0.1\Upload
On macOS, Linux and Android, enter the address in the form smb://10.42.0.1/Staging (and likewise for Laufwerke and Upload).
WebDAV
https://10.42.0.1/dav/http://10.42.0.1/dav/
There you will find the folders Staging, Laufwerke and Upload.
The http address is intended for devices on which the SD Migrator’s certificate is not installed. Large files can also be transferred via WebDAV.
Tip: On your home network you can use
<hostname>.localinstead of10.42.0.1, replacing<hostname>with your SD Migrator’s device name.
Connecting
- Connect your device to the same network as the SD Migrator.
- Open your device’s file manager.
- Enter one of the SMB or WebDAV addresses above.
- No login is required.
macOS, Linux and Android file managers connect without any further settings.
Note for Windows 11
Windows 11 rejects guest access via SMB by default (insecure guest logon, SMB signing). You have two options:
- Use WebDAV instead of SMB.
- Or enable the policy “Enable insecure guest logons” in Windows.
Newly inserted drives
A newly mounted drive appears immediately as a subfolder of Laufwerke via SMB, and after about 2 seconds via WebDAV.
Important notes
Warning: Do not change files on the card or in Staging while a job is running. Verification will then fail. Your data remains safe, but the job has to be run again.
Warning: While a file on a drive is open, the drive cannot be unmounted. Close all files before ejecting a card or SSD.
